May 17 (Renewables Now) - Yanmar Engine Manufacturing India Pvt Ltd (YEMI), the Indian unit of Japanese engine manufacturer Yanmar, has entered into a long-term solar power agreement with French multi-energy group TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTE) involving a 1-MWp rooftop solar installation.

TotalEnergies will install and operate a photovoltaic (PV) system of over 2,200 solar panels on top of an industrial engine production facility. The system will generate some 1,500 MWh of electricity per year.

The output of the system is expected to meet 30% of the plant’s needs, with YEMI paying for the clean electricity for a 20-year period, without making any upfront investments, TotalEnergies said.

"With this investment, we continue Yanmar's goal to realise a sustainable future with access to powerful, highly efficient, and affordable engine technologies as well as implementing systems that can make optimal use of diverse energy sources to reduce the burden on the environment,” said Varun Khanna, Managing Director YEMI.
