April 12 (Renewables Now) - Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy's (BME:SGRE) contract to service 254.7 MW of wind parks of Glennmont Partners in Italy has been renewed.

The wind turbine maker will continue to operate and maintain a fleet of own machines at 12 wind parks in the southern provinces of Foggia, Messina, Agrigento and Chieti for 10 more years, London-based renewable energy fund manager Glennmont Partners said on Thursday. The portfolio includes 236 turbines -- 189 G52 units totalling 160.7 MW, nine G80 machines of 18 MW in total, 33 G87 pieces with a combined capacity of 66 MW and five G90 turbines totalling 10 MW.

Under the new contract, Siemens Gamesa will provide new services and upgrades that will reduce the cost of energy and ensure greater control over operation and maintenance costs. John Paul Larraneta, service CEO of Siemens Gamesa’s Southern Europe and Africa region, noted that the deal expands the company’s footprint in “an important and competitive market.”

Siemens Gamesa has installed 2,050 MW of wind turbine capacity in Italy and maintains 1,608 MW.
