SB Energy's Softbank Tochigi Motegi Solar Park

January 24 (Renewables Now) - Japanese renewable energy firm SB Energy Corp announced it has commenced the commercial operation of a 2-MW solar plant in Tochigi prefecture.

The Softbank Tochigi Motegi Solar Park, as the photovoltaic (PV) plant is named, has an estimated annual output of about 2.47 million kWh, enough to supply 687 local households, the clean energy arm of SoftBank Corp (TYO:9984) said on Thursday.

Located in Motegi city, the PV park covers an area of 4.2 hectares (10.4 acres). SB Energy was responsible for the design, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) works for the PV facility, it pointed out in its press release.

The company has a total of 38.6 MW of solar capacity in the Kanto-Koshinetsu region, according to its website, and Motegi Solar is the eighth one there.

At the beginning of the month, SB Energy and local firm JA Mitsui Leasing Ltd also switched on a 22.4-MW solar plant in Miyazaki prefecture.
