January 31 (Renewables Now) - Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) and Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc (TYO:9501), or TEPCO, are trying to pave the way for a joint offshore wind project to take part in Japan’s upcoming auction.

As unveiled a year ago, the Danish energy major entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with TEPCO to co-develop offshore wind projects in Japan, starting with the so-called Choshi scheme off the coast of Tokyo.

The two parties “are progressing and having good productive conversations”, Ørsted’s CEO Henrik Poulsen said at a conference call on Thursday after reporting the Danish company’s full-year financial results.

“If we were to get that project qualified and if we establish a joint venture, it might be a candidate for the Japanese auction in the second half,” Poulsen said.
