May 8 (Renewables Now) - UK project developer Renewable Energy Systems Ltd (RES) announced on Tuesday that the construction of the 200-MW Reading wind farm had started in Osage and Lyon counties, the US state of Kansas.

RES will be building the wind farm for Atlanta-based utility Southern Power, to which it sold the project last year. The wind farm is slated to begin operations in the second quarter of 2020. Afterwards, Southern Power will be in charge of its operation and maintenance. The wind farm’s annual output of some 760,000 MWh will be sold to Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd under a 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) has been selected to supply 62 wind turbines for the Reading farm.
