May 16 (Renewables Now) - German renewable energy firm PNE AG (ETR:PNE3) on Wednesday said it has acquired a 22.3 MW-wind farm in Lower Saxony and unveiled plans for its repowering.

The 16-turbine Papenrode wind park will be operated in-house. The company did not disclose any timeframe for the potential repowering activities, which would boost the capacity of the farm with the use of more modern and efficient turbines.

CEO Markus Lesser noted that PNE is “prepared to increasingly” take over operational wind power facilities. The firm sees significant potential for wind repowering projects on the domestic market after the expiration of the statutory period for the EEG green levy allocation at end-2020. According to PNE, this will affect around 4.5 GW of wind turbine capacity in 2021.
