January 22 (Renewables Now) - Private markets investment manager Partners Group Holding AG (SWX:PGHN) has sealed a deal to buy an 80% stake in Dresden-based renewables developer and operator VSB Group.

Partners Group did not reveal the value of the transaction, but said it includes a significant allocation to fund future growth. Following completion, VSB's founder Andreas Dorner will retain the remaining equity stake of 20%.

Since being founded in 1996, VSB has developed and built more than 1.1 GW of onshore wind farms and solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants and is currently managing over 1.4 GW of wind assets. Having a headcount of more than 300, the company is active in eight countries, with 19 offices and ten service hubs.

Andreas Dorner, founder and managing director of VSB Group, commented that the company was looking for a “like-minded partner” to speed up the next phase of its growth. In turn, David Daum, member of management, Private Infrastructure Europe at Partners Group, said that the investor recognises the potential in VSB to become “the preeminent European renewable energy platform.”
