March 26 (Renewables Now) - Germany’s Nordex (ETR:NDX1) today introduced a 5-MW onshore wind turbine, known as the N149/5.X, that is due to go into series production as of 2021.

This is the third turbine type in the Delta4000 series after the N149/4.0-4.5 and the N133/4.8, and is designed for moderate and light-wind areas, Nordex said in a statement. The target markets include core markets in Europe and global growth regions such as South Africa, Australia and South America.

The N149/5.X retains the electrical system and the partial converter of the previous models from the Delta4000 series, but uses a new gearbox. It also features the rotor blade of the N149/4.0-4.5 turbine and the exterior dimensions of the nacelle remain unchanged.

The new turbine will come in a wide range of sound power modes, including a low sound power level of 104.8 dB(A). Different tower options will also be offered, up to a height of 164 metres.
