N.Macedonia's gross electricity output flattish in 2018

SKOPJE (North Macedonia), February 25 (SeeNews) – North Macedonia's gross electricity production edged up 0.1% year-on-year to 5,607,171 MWh in 2018, the national statistical office said on Monday.

Net electricity output also increased - to 5,282,753 MWh from 5,224,912 MWh in 2017, Makstat said in a statement.

Thermal power plants contributed the largest share of gross domestic electricity production, generating 2,613,006 MWh, down 16.9% compared to 2017.

Hydro power plants followed with 1,774,497 MWh, up 62.4%.

Cogeneration plants (CHP) and auto-production thermal power stations produced 721,073 MWh of electricity in 2018, down 10.0% on the year.

Electricity generated by wind parks decreased by 11.9% to 97,338 MWh, while biogas plants’ output increased by 4.8% to 54,050 MWh. Solar parks produced 22,788 MWh of electricity, down 4.1%.

North Macedonia’s electricity imports edged up by an annual 0.2% in 2018 to 2,297,169 MWh, whereas exports increased to 377,423 MWh from 311,026 MWh in the previous year.

Distribution losses fell 0.9% on the year to 994,814 MWh last year.
