April 26 (Renewables Now) - Swiss solar equipment maker Meyer Burger Technology AG (SWX:MBTN) said today it has won a contract worth some CHF 16 million (USD 16.3m/EUR 13.4m) for its MB PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Contact) cell technology.

More specifically, Meyer Burger has completed a repeat order for its MAiA 4.1 system for rear side coating of PERC solar cells, which will be used at a production plant in Malaysia. The name of its Asian client, which it says is a global leader in the photovoltaic (PV) industry, was not provided.

In addition, the Swiss firm has secured an order for its fully-integrated FABiA 4.1 platform from the same customer for a manufacturing facility in China. Meyer Burger explained that the specific system combines both front- and rear-side cell passivation under a single platform, which simplifies the production process by lowering the overall manufacturing footprint by over 30%.

The company intends to start deliveries of the equipment in the third quarter of 2018, expecting revenues from the deal to be recognised in the last quarter of the year.
