October 13 (Renewables Now) - Lightsource BP, the solar power company backed by BP Plc (LON:BP), today celebrated the dedication of the 300-MW Bighorn Solar project in Colorado that now powers Evraz North America’s steel mill in Pueblo.

Lightsource BP financed, owns and operates the solar power station, selling its output to Minneapolis-based utility holding company Xcel Energy Inc (NASDAQ:XEL) under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA). In turn, Evraz has arranged with Xcel Energy to receive clean, renewable power and price certainty through 2041.

While the solar park is already producing power and feeding it into the grid, it is expected to fully come online next month.

According to the announcement, Bighorn Solar is the largest on-site solar facility in the US that is dedicated to a single customer.
