June 7 (Renewables Now) - Japanese renewable power producer Renova Inc (TYO:9519) announced on Monday that it has started surveying an area in the Hokkaido prefecture for geothermal resources.

Renova is a co-sponsor of the initiative alongside Daiwa Energy & Infrastructure Co Ltd, a unit of Japan’s Daiwa Securities Group Inc (TYO:8601) and Mitsubishi Materials Corporation (TYO:5711).

Mitsubishi Materials joined the project company Hakodate Esan Geothermal GK this year.

The proposed geothermal power plant would be located in the Esan District of the city of Hakodate, where Renova's team is now drilling a large-diameter well.

The survey started in April 2022 and will run until February 2023, Renova said.
