IIC lends USD 15m for hydroelectric projects in Guatemala

(SeeNews) - Sep 26, 2013 - The Inter-American Investment Corp (IIC) yesterday said it approved financing of up to USD 15 million (EUR 11.1m) for two run-of-river projects of combined 30.65 MW in Guatemala's Huehuetenango department.

The projects are managed by Generadora San Mateo and Generadora San Andres, which were established in 2012 to design, build and operate the two plants. The first company will receive up to USD 9 million to install 20 MW.

The financing will ensure the construction and operation of the projects, Rodrigo Rodas, CFO of the two companies, said.

The plants will produce nearly 170 GWh of renewable energy a year.
