Guatemalan CMI to start up 114-MW HPP this month

(SeeNews) - Jun 6, 2014 - Guatemala-based Corporacion Multi Inversiones (CMI) said yesterday it will launch the 114-MW Renace II hydroelectric power plant (HPP) at the end of this month.

CMI, which also invests in agriculture and real estate, is building the plant in the northern Alta Verapaz department together with Spanish construction and industrial services firm Grupo Cobra, owned by ACS (MCE:ACS). The investment in the project stands at USD 270 million (EUR 197.8m).

CMI already has two hydroelectric plants of 66 MW and 16 MW, in operation since 2004 and 2011, respectively.

The company is studying a new project of USD 160 million that will be built in 2016, energy manager Juan Mendez said.
