May 8 (Renewables Now) - Italy-based Falck Renewables SpA (BIT:FKR) announced on Tuesday it is investing around USD 3.6 million (EUR 3.2m) in a 6.6-MWh energy storage system to be integrated with an existing solar plant in the US.
The project will be implemented at a site in Middleton, Massachusetts, and is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2019. The above-mentioned investment includes the costs of all equipment, engineering and construction services and development of the system.
NEC Energy Solutions Inc will be the equipment supplier. Local utility Middleton Electric Light Department (MELD) will dispatch the batteries during periods of high demand charges on the power grid, according to the announcement.
MELD and Falck have entered into a long-term capacity service agreement, the Italian company noted.
