Atlas Renewable Energy solar plant in Brazil
March 16 (Renewables Now) - EDP Energias do Brasil SA (B3:ENBR3) has put into operation a 5-MW distributed generation (DG) solar power plant in Minas Gerais state.
Located in a 20-hectare (49.4 acres) area in Porteirinha municipality, the photovoltaic (PV) park will guarantee the renewable energy supply to 100 local branches of Brazilian national lender Banco do Brasil SA (BVMF:BBAS3), also knows as BB.
Consisting of 19,000 solar panels, the solar farm is expected to generate some 14,000 MWh per year, enough to meet the demand of 5,833 homes. It should help BB offset around 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually and save BRL 80 million (USD 16.4m/EUR 14.7m) during its first 12 years.
BB plans to put six other DG solar plants into operation by end-2021 in the states of Minas Gerais, Goias, Para, Bahia and Ceara, as well as in the Federal District. Once completed, the seven parks will generate 42 GWh per year, the equivalent to the annual consumption of 17,500 households.
