January 24 (Renewables Now) - Chilean personal care products group Empresas Davis SA has contracted electricity from 100% renewable sources for the next five years under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Colbun SA.

The power utility said Thursday the PPA will cover demand of close to 0.9 GWh per year. The contracted power will be supplied to the customer’s factories in the commune of Estacion Central, Santiago Metropolitan Region.

Colbun is a relative newcomer to the non-conventional renewable power generation. The company has several dams and small hydropower plants, but only one solar park in operation.

Last October, it said it had identified a portfolio of solar and wind projects for 3,200 MW, which it plans to realise in the coming years. Two months later, Colbun submitted an environmental impact report for the 610-MWp Jardin Solar photovoltaic (PV) project.
