February 22 (Renewables Now) – The environmental impact report for the 36-MW Kosten Aike wind project in Chile’s Aysen region has been admitted this week for evaluation by the local authorities.

The USD-62-million (EUR 54.7m) Kosten Aike project is being developed by Chile’s Grupo AQM. It plans to install ten wind turbines in the province of Coyhaique, where most residents use firewood for heating, according to the environmental impact report. The project’s objective is to diversify the local power mix and promote sustainable heating.

The construction is scheduled to begin in January 2021 and will be carried out in two phases. During the first phase, four wind turbines will be erected, while the remaining six machines will be put up in 2027 when the whole project is expected to complete.
