Brazil's June 28 energy auction to contract solar by quantity - report

April 10 (Renewables Now) - Brazil's June 28 energy auction will, for the first time, see solar project developers sign contracts in the quantity modality, according to power sector regulator Aneel.

The reason is that solar power is now considered to be established enough in the country to allow investors to take on additional risks, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

For Energy Trading Contracts in the Regulated Market (CCEAR) under the quantity model the power generators have to bear the hydrological risk, while in the availability model the buyers take the risk.

State-owned energy research firm EPE unveiled last week that 51.2 GW of renewable energy projects have been registered for the auction, with solar plants at the top with 751 projects, or 26.25 GW.
