April 19 (Renewables Now) - Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy released on Monday the guidelines for the new energy auctions to be held on September 16, 2022.

Through a decree published in the Official Gazette, the government confirmed that the auctions, dubbed A-5 and A-6, will contract hydro, wind, solar photovoltaic (PV) power, energy from solid urban waste, biomass, biogas, coal and natural gas capacity.

Hydro scheme capacities are limited to 50 MW.

These tenders will award power purchase agreements (PPA) with terms of 15 years for wind and solar, and 20 years for the other sources.

A-5 power supply is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027, while A-6 is set for January 1, 2028.

Investors and interested parties have until May 11 to submit projects for registration through the Electric Energy Generation Enterprises Monitoring System (AEGE) tool, as per instructions on Brazil's state-owned energy research firm EPE website.

According to the ministry, previous schemes that had already been technically qualified for the A-4 auction, and remain unchanged, are allowed to re-enter the new tender.
