December 28 (Renewables Now) - Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy announced last week the guidelines for the new energy auction to be held on May 27, 2022.

Through a decree published in the Official Gazette, the government confirmed that the auction, dubbed as A-4, will contract hydro, wind, solar and biomass-based thermal projects.

This tender will award power purchase agreements (PPA) with a term of 15 years for wind and solar, and 20 years for the other two sources. Power supply is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2026.

Investors and interested parties can submit projects for registration with Brazil's state-owned energy research firm EPE by the deadline of January 19, 2022.

According to the ministry decree, previous schemes that had already been technically qualified for the 2021 A-5 auction, and remain unchanged, are allowed to re-enter the new tender.
