Atlas Renewable Energy switches on 156 MWp PV plant in Brazil

Atlas Renewable Energy solar plant in Brazil

August 21 (Renewables Now) - Atlas Renewable Energy announced today that the 156-MWp Juazeiro solar plant, the largest in its Brazilian portfolio, is fully operational.

Located in Juazeiro municipality, Bahia state, the photovoltaic (PV) park required approximately BRL 650 million (USD 161.51m/EUR 145.46m) in investments. The project includes the first digital substation installed in Latin America.

Juazeiro Solar has an estimated annual power generation of some 357 GWh, which is enough to meet the demand of 207,592 families. Consisting of 475,200 modules spread over 350 hectares, Juazeiro Solar is expected to offset more than 47,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year.

Contracted in a government auction in 2015, the PV park has a 20-year energy purchase agreement (PPA).

Atlas Renewable Energy operates 304 MWp in Brazil and has a further 117 MWp of solar plants under construction.
